Hello – thanks for finding out about Explorers. Please read on to find out a bit about Titan Explorer Scout Unit (ESU)……… · Explorers is the 14 to 18 year old section of Scouts, but we do take young people in before their 14th birthday · We do lots of exciting activities and run a weekly programme on Thursday nights, meeting (mainly) at Oakwood Community Centre at 8pm · The programme is designed by the Explorers, and there is lots of opportunity for you to take a leading role in planning and organising events and activities · We also run activities at weekends and occasionally other nights of the week, and also at other venues to suit, sometimes with the other Explorer units in our District · We wear uniform most weeks and would expect you to buy a uniform before you get invested in the unit – which is typically 4 to 6 weeks after you start coming down · We operate award schemes including the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, which is run through a dedicated District Explorer unit, which you can be part of · Subscription costs are £10 a month, payable in advance (most people pay for 3 months at a time) – your first month is free, as a taster · We usually have August off, so I can have a rest and you can go on holiday and not miss much · Coming up in the next few months; Cornwall summer camp (26th July to 3rd Aug – you can still join us, if you are quick - £300), lots of outdoor summer activities (including raft building, mountain biking and backwoods cooking) and at least 2 weekend camps in the autumn.
